Connecting Western North Carolina to Eastern Tennessee is the Cherohala Skyway.
From Tellico Plains, TN Hwy 165 - NC Hwy 143 to Robbinsville is the Skyway. The road took over 30 years to build at a cost of over $100 million dollars. It is a 40 mile, two-lane blacktop road that passes crystal-clear rivers, climbs breathtaking scenic overlooks or over 5300 ft.
The overlooks is worth the stop and take photographs to enjoy the site later. Take your time and enjoy the views. It will take about 1 1/2 to 2 hours to cross the skyway.
We did a loop around, at Robbinsville, we took Hwy 129 South to Topon, Hwy 74 to Murphy, Hwy 64 into Cleveland.
